Baltimore, Maryland - U.S. District Judge J. Frederick Motz sentenced Gary Montrell White, age 38, of Baltimore, Maryland, today to151 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release for bank robbery, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein.  Judge Motz also ordered White to pay $19,635 in restitution.

According to his plea agreement, on May 31, 2005 White entered Provident Bank, located at 1010 West 36th Street, Baltimore, and gave the teller a note demanding money and threatening to shoot a customer.  The teller, believing White was armed with a handgun, placed $4,150 from her cash drawer inside a brown paper bag White had given her and handed the bag to White.  White left the bank on foot, leaving the demand note behind.

Fingerprint examination of the demand note revealed an impression of the left index finger of White.  White was also identified through  photographs from the bank's surveillance system.  After his arrest, White admitted to also robbing the Carrollton Bank on January 4, 2005; the Provident Bank on March 29, 2005; the Wachovia bank on April 7, 2005; the M&T Bank on May 18, 2005; the Provident Bank on May 31, 2005; and the Wachovia Bank on August 5, 2005.

United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein thanked the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Baltimore City and Baltimore County Police Departments for their investigative work.  Mr. Rosenstein  commended Assistant United States Attorney Christopher J. Romano, who prosecuted the case.
