FREDERICK MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO RECEIVING
CHILD PORNOGRAPHY FROM THE INTERNET

 
Baltimore, Maryland - Jacob Wilmer Greenawalt, age 45, of Frederick, Maryland, pleaded guilty today to distributing child pornography, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein.
 
According to his guilty plea, on April 3, 2006 Greenawalt used his work issued lap top computer to receive and possess child pornography. Between 2004 and February 2007, he downloaded over 2,000 images and 75 videos depicting child pornography. A large number of the images depicted prepubescent females, and there were also images depicting bondage and infants.
 
Greenawalt faces a minimum mandatory sentence of five years, and a maximum of 20 years in prison, followed by supervised release for life. U.S. District Chief Judge Benson E. Legg has scheduled sentencing for July 11, 2008 at 10:00 a.m.
 
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims. United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein praised the Federal Bureau of Investigation and commended Assistant United States Attorney Paul E. Budlow, who is prosecuting the case.
